Since March 2017, Pastor Janice D. Herman has served as Pastor and has gained the attention, admiration, and respect of the members of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was hand-picked and sent, by God, to this area on a special mission.

Pastor Herman openly shares experiences from being raised in South Carolina under the firm guidance of parents who did not tolerate foolishness when it came to Holy Living; Especially Mother Herman who devoted her life to covering her somewhat rebellious daughter in prayer because she discerned her destiny. She was the respected biblical example in her community and household of raising up a child in the way they should go.

Pastor Herman brings 17 ½ years of military experience from serving in the United States Army. By God's design, she returned safely from war-ravaged places such as Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq to answer the call to ministry.

Prior to coming to Delaware, she resided in Baltimore, Maryland for a number of years and faithfully served at Greater Grace Harvest Church, as an ordained Elder under the leadership of Bishop Carl H. Montgomery. Her noticeable strong voice gained her the position of Church Reader. She was a dedicated member of the Praise and Worship Team, anointed drummer, and personal assistant to both Bishop & First Lady Montgomery. During that time, she was mentored in the Word of God and taught respect for authority, joyful humility in servanthood, discretion of conversation, decency, and order with respect to Church protocol ad the disciplines of Holy living.

Pastor Herman is an avid reader and student of God's word. Her life is dedicated to living by example and encouraging all who will listen, how to live up to their full potential in Christ Jesus. Her desire is to see God's people saved, healed, and delivered. This is evident in her Holy Spirit-inspired Sermons which she delivers in such a unique way. She will tell you that she has no tricks or gimmicks, all she has is God and His Word. In all her ways she acknowledges Him, and to be in her presence and under her teaching, is to be a witness that He surely directs her path. 

She has served in administrative positions both in the United States Army and as a civilian. She has experience as a counselor in both settings as well. Her upbringing as a solid Christian gave her strength and wisdom to be able to help some of her fellow soldiers through some tough times in the wake of tragedies experienced during their time of service.

Her educational background includes a B.S. in Biblical Studies from Lancaster Bible College, Lancaster, PA. On May 10, 2021, she became a graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC, with her Master's in Divinity.

Pastor Herman leaves nothing to human planning or chance. God is her advisor in all things. She makes no apology for delivering the truth of God's Word in its raw form and will not bend to tickling ears and leaving God's people deceived. She desires that after having heard what thus sayeth the Lord, all will leave in a better state than when they came. Her past experiences, good, bad, or indifferent, are often shared to show that God is able to use imperfect people to perform His perfect will. Her exhortation is to remind us regularly that our past is a process which serves to prepare us for our purpose.

Pastor Herman has been blessed with the gift of weaving a colorful tapestry from a story in the bible with simple language which captivates the attention of even the youngest listener. God uses the characteristics of her personality to deliver His Word in a delightful mixture of compassion, transparency, and firm reminders.

But, most importantly, she preaches the truth of the Word of God through the Power of the Holy Spirit.
